Can children eat PSNLifestyle MRP Nougat Bars? If so, from what age and what serving size?

Our MRP Nougat Bars are delicious treats, rich in protein. They can safely be enjoyed by children older than two years of age. They should not however be viewed as a meal replacement for children and should never replace a healthy balanced meal, rich in macronutrients, fruit and veggies.  Children’s total serving size per day can range from ¼ bar to ½ a bar. However, daily use is not recommended due to the risk of digestive side effects. The bars contain dairy constituents and sugar substitutes like maltilol, lactilol and polydextrose which may cause digestive upset like stomach cramps, loose stools or diarrhoea, bloating, gas and flatulence in excessive amounts and in sensitive individuals.

I found a white waxy layer on the surface of my Nougat bar, should I be alarmed?

Our nougat bars are freshly produced. In some instances, especially during summer when temperatures change between storage and transport, chocolate products may produce a white waxy layer. This white coating is referred to as chocolate bloom. This reaction is caused by changes in fat.  The theory is that cocoa butter consists of various triglycerides (fatty acids), each with its own unique melting temperature. During storage and transport of the products the surrounding temperature of the bars vary, which causes phase separation of the different fatty acids and crystallization. This reaction appears as the white coating. This reaction can also be brought about by physical handling whilst producing and packing the product. 

How many bars am I allowed per day?

We recommend one bar per day and encourage you to obtain your required protein and other essential nutrients from regular healthy balanced meals and snacks including lean meats, fish, chicken, eggs, nuts and seeds, dairy, fruit and veggies, nut butters and whole grain carbohydrates.  To even further boost your protein intake, it is recommended to supplement with our protein fortified Just Whey or Whey Gold shakes as a snack or meal replacement.

Can I eat PSNLifestyle Nougat Bars if I have diabetes?

Yes, you can certainly treat yourself with our Nougat Bars as a snack if you have diabetes.  They are sweetened with reduced calorie sugar substitutes, yield high protein concentrations of 20g, and therefore have low glycaemic indexes. This means that when you enjoy your bar, it will result in a steady and slow release of blood sugars without any insulin challenge. If you find yourself in a hypoglycaemic attack or insulin shock, glucose or simply carbohydrates as advised by your physician or dietician, will still be the best counter treatment.  Commonly used simple carbohydrates in cases of hypoglycaemia include glucose tablets, glucose gel, raisins, juice or soda, sugar, honey, corn syrup, 1% milk, or sweets.
